Principal's Weekly Message

May 20-24th

We look forward to our 2nd. Annual Memorial Day celebration that will be held on Friday at 9:30AM.  We have many people from the community coming to join us.  Please plan to attend to support our efforts.  We are hoping to see lots of uniforms as well as family members in red, white, and blue!

Interims will go home on Tuesday for students on tracks 3 and 4. 

Muffins for Mom will be held on Wednesday for students on tracks 3 and 4 in our Multipurpose Room from 8:30-9:00.

Our Volunteer Breakfast will be held on Thursday from 8:00-9:00AM in our Media Center.

Yearbooks

Personalized yearbooks were sent home with each student on Thursday, May 16th. Read below for the options.

Option 1:
Purchase the personalized yearbook and send payment of $17.00.

Option 2:
Return the personalized yearbook and send a note to request a yearbook that is not personalized and send a payment of $17.00.

Option 3:
Return the personalized yearbook ASAP if you do not wish to purchase it.

Payments:
Use the envelope and send exact cash or checks made out to Holly Grove PTA by the due date.

Due dates:
Tracks 1, 3, and 4 Payment due May 28th
Track 2 Payment due June 12th

Memorial Day Celebration

On Friday, May 24th, from 9:30-10:30 am, HGES will be celebrating Memorial Day with a special presentation by our students and community members. This celebration is dedicated to our current and past members of the Armed Forces.

You are invited to celebrate with us and we encourage all military personnel to wear their uniforms. We hope to see lots of red, white, and blue, also.

Parenting Class

Join Tanya Guinn, one of our school counselors for a Parenting Class/Support Group.  This parenting class is based on the book ScreamFree Parenting by Hal Runkel, LMFT (NY Times Best Seller).  The class begins Wednesday, May 1st and will meet at Holly Grove Elementary from 5:00-6:15pm for 6 weeks.

Kindergarten Registration

Kindergarten registration for 2013-2014 has begun. Parents registering can come into school from 9:30-11:30 on Tuesdays and Thursdays to register their child. Children can be registered any other time by appointment only.

EOG Volunteers

Holly Grove is in need of volunteer proctors to cover End-of-Grade testing for dates in May & June. Proctoring is very easy and volunteer proctors help our school by allowing other staff to fulfill their normal duties so children do not have as many interruptions/changes in instruction due to upper grades testing. If interested, please contact Mike Przybowski, the school counselor and test coordinator at 919-577-1705 or mprzybowski@wcpss.net to see how you can help. End-of-Grade testing dates are as follows: 

Tracks 2, 3 & 4 - June 11th, 12th, & 13th. 

Teacher Assistant of the Year

During a banquet Friday, April 19, 2013, Mrs. Eichvalds was named the Wake County Teacher Assistant of the Year! We are so proud of her accomplishment.  She is such a deserving teacher assistant to receive this honor.  When we think of her, several adjectives come to mind:  caring, flexible, helpful, resourceful, team player, friendly, helper, and committed to name just a few.

She has been a teacher assistant at Holly Grove for the past seven years.  When the HGE team interviewed her, she possessed the core values that were important to us and our learning community.  She has a high regard for ALL children and is interested and committed to helping ALL of them succeed.

We find her to be a humble person, who shared that she was just honored to be named by her peers at Holly Grove; however the committee saw what her peers saw;  a very capable individual who was deserving of the highest honor our district gives to a Teacher Assistant.

We are confident that she will serve our school and district well as she reigns for the next year as the district winner.

Meet and Greet (2013-2014)

Meet and Greet for Kindergarten, Tracks 1-3 is scheduled from 4:30-5:30 on Friday, July 12, 2013. Track 4 is scheduled from 4:30-5:30 on August 2, 2013.

Meet and Greet for grades 1st through 5th, Tracks 234 is scheduled from 5:00-6:00 on Thursday, June 27, 2013. Track 1 is scheduled from 5:00-6:00 on Thursday, May 30, 2013.

Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to Holly Grove Elementary School!  One of the keys to a successful and safe school environment where academic excellence prevails is consistent, clear and specific communication between and among parents and students.  

We hope that this year be filled with many rewarding academic and social school experiences.  Our goal is to provide a quality instructional program tailored to meet the individual needs of our students.  We will hold each student to high academic and behavior standards.  We want them to reach their fullest potential.  We can achieve our goals with everyone working together as a TEAM!
